🌊 The Seasonal Shift

Hi, Quantum Community,

Our regular school season has officially wrapped up, and our summer youth dragon boat program is officially underway! With nearly 40 strong young athletes registered for the summer phase, we are looking forward to a fun, memorable, and high-energy season out on the water.

🎓 Farewell to Our Grade 12 Graduates

This month, we say a heartfelt farewell to our 20 graduating Grade 12 athletes. Some of you have been with this team since Day 1 back in 2023, and it has been an honor to watch you flourish and navigate your way toward bright futures.

As our coach beautifully put it:

“Dragon boating isn’t only about competition. It’s about friendship, belonging, confidence, resilience, and creating memories that will stay with you long after high school ends. The medals will eventually gather dust, but the friendships, the laughter at practice, the bus rides, the race-day excitement, and the feeling of being part of something bigger than yourself—those are the things you’ll remember.

The truth is, the people who build a team never really leave it. Your impact remains in the traditions you’ve helped create, the friendships you’ve built, and the example you’ve set for those who follow. So while we’re saying goodbye to you as active youth athletes, we are thrilled to welcome you as our newest alumni! We have set up a dedicated alumni communication channel to keep everyone connected. Remember, whatever you need down the road, your Quantum community will always have your back.”

2026 Team Wrap-up Party

  Welcoming the 2026–2027 Management Team

Please join us in welcoming our incoming youth executive team for the 2026–2027 season!Quan Man 2026.jpg

Formed by student leaders bridging three different local high school dragon boat clubs, this new management group is ready to carry the torch and take the Quantum fleet to the next level.

⛵ Summer Coaching Staff Updates

We are incredibly excited to welcome back our summer coach, Vince Bando! Mr. Bando is a highly experienced paddler who has coached Quantum since day one. He is returning to anchor our summer program and develop our paddlers’ skills on the water.

Meanwhile, our regular season coaches, Junwen Chen and Sophia Chan, will be taking a well-deserved summer break from our energetic crew. We wish them a wonderful, relaxing summer and look forward to having them back with refreshed ideas in the fall!

📅 Sponsorship Drive & Academic Fitness Credits

Our dragon boat team calendar is actively seeking corporate and community sponsors once again! Thanks to our generous sponsors last year, we were able to offer numerous student scholarships, and grants, and provide high-quality team jerseys at an extremely low cost. This keeps our youth fees accessible, relieves the financial burden on families, and ensures year-round, elite coaching and fitness training.
(Details will be soon published and sent to you)

Additionally, our High Performance Fitness & Conditioning course offered by Richmond School District is open for registration again. Richmond youth paddlers can keep training on the water while earning high-performance athletic school credits. ðŸ‘‰ [https://rvsmoodle.sd38.bc.ca/course/index.php?categoryid=58]

💰 RDBS Summer Commitment Grant & Steering Clinic

Because this summer is a comprehensive season running from June 14th to September 30th, the Richmond Dragon Boat Society (RDBS) has agreed to offer the RDBS Summer Commitment Grant to all qualifying summer paddlers—including our recent Grade 12 graduates!

  • Award Criteria: To qualify, paddlers must hit a minimum attendance of 18 out of 24 practices.
  • Effort & Leadership: Preference is given to athletes who demonstrate a strong work ethic, positive team conduct, and an eagerness to take on leadership tasks like learning how to steer.
  • Future Value: This summer also counts as one of the two main active seasons required to apply for the prestigious RDBS Graduation Scholarship during your senior year.

Free Steering Clinic: RDBS is also offering a free on-water steering clinic specifically for our Quantum youth paddlers, coached by Mr. Gary Luo. Learning to steer is an incredible leadership skill that directly boosts your standing for future awards. If you want to join the clinic, please reply directly to this email so we can secure your spot on the registration list.

📥 Next Steps for Parents & Athletes

  • Website Updates: Our regular newsletter and team announcements will be continually updated at www.rdbs38.com.
  • Registration Paperwork: Please review the attached summer paddler registration package. Note: Hard copies will be handed out directly to the athletes on-site at practice for your convenience.

Have a wonderful summer, everyone, and let’s have some splash fun on the water!

Best regards,

Quantum Management Team
